Dr. Klein suggests that it is often easier to migrate data from EMR to EMR is easier than paper to EMR.  He summarizes his EMR transition process of 7 months from start to go-live; then an additional 3 months for additional proficiency.  Key learning points include ensure parallel (independent) systems for a period of time (6 months) to ensure accuracy of any data that has been migrated and easy access to data that has not been migrated.  Keep the transition neat and simple!
